When is it okay to have sex again after having a baby?
Between sleepless nights, an infant's cries and the excess baby weight you might be holding on to, there are a lot of things that can put a damper on your love life in the months after you give birth.
But despite all these factors, a recent study finds sex might actually improve postpartum. Researchers from British site Channel Mum studied 1,118 sets of parents and found that while new parents generally wait an average of 58 days after birth till they're intimate again, a whopping 94 percent of responders indicate that they're satisfied with their sex lives post-baby. In fact, 57 percent say that having a baby improves things. Nearly a third of the responders say they get busy more often post-baby—and on the flip side, four in five participants say they focus on quality over quantity.
The study also observes something refreshing: Two-thirds of the men studied say they prefer their partner's body post-body, while one-third say they don't notice a difference. One-third of the men surveyed admit to preferring their partner's pre-baby body.
But while the men in the study express satisfaction with their female partners' bodies, 44 percent of the women in the study worry their partners won't find their post-baby bodies attractive—and 35 percent say they feel "too fat for sex" after giving birth. Just 14 percent of the women say they feel totally confident sexually and over half the women surveyed feel stressed after post-baby romps.
Channel Mum's founder, Siobhan Freegard sums up the study's findings. "Having a baby is the biggest change you can bring into a relationship, so it's wonderful to see it can bring couples closer together rather than drive them apart," she says.
