Laying floor tiles

Laying floor tiles on a domestic scale is not such a costly process. Therefore, in case of repair, I believe that you can save here and do all the work yourself. I bring to your attention a few tips on laying floor tiles with your own hands. The following tools and materials will be needed for such work: a grinder with a disc on stone, an ordinary trowel, a toothed trowel, a building level, tiled glue, a trowel and the tile itself. Before beginning work, you must carefully prepare the floor surface. This is one of the most important moments. The tiles are placed only on a “confident” surface: linoleum or sagging boards will not work here. To smooth the surface of the floor, you can use plywood. However, this is not enough. To ensure that the tile adhesive is in good contact with the floor, I recommend leveling the surface with a screed. The smoother the surface, the easier it is to lay tiles.

Next you need to decide on the sequence of laying tiles. Usually, one-piece tiles are laid out in accessible, center-shaped places, and at the edges where the tile does not fit, the trimming is laid. Actually, we start with solid tiles. We mix the glue according to the manufacturer's instructions (carefully mix to homogeneous mass, without lumps, and maintain the technological pause for about 10 minutes). Next, with an ordinary trowel we spread the glue over the prepared surface with an even layer. Then we carry out a notched trowel over the layer, so that stripes are obtained. Tile stack accurately: first one edge completely put, and then slowly lower the second. Then we press down the tile with our hands to stand up straight. The laying process itself is not complicated. However, it is important to remember that the distance between the tiles should be about 3 - 4 mm. And when laying each tile, use the construction level: all tiles must be on the same plane.

When the solid tiles are laid, you can start making blanks. To do this, we measure, draw on the tile and cut off unnecessary remnants of the grinder. Some builders use mechanical or electric tile cutters. However, complex blanks are easier to cut with a grinder. Next, we continue the process of laying tiles, observing the gaps. Please note that the tile should not rest against the wall (a gap is necessary). After completion of the work, it is necessary to ensure complete rest of the laid tile. Full drying of the glue occurs after 24 hours. Then the tile can be subjected to stress. After 3 - 4 days it is necessary to clean the joints between the tiles and using the grout to thoroughly lubricate them, removing the excess. Close the joints of the tile to linoleum or laminate with ordinary sills. The joints with the wall close the baseboard or curb tiles. After drying the floor is ready. Good luck.
