Putty napkin

Without knowing how to sew, or embroider, or knit, it turns out it is easy and simple to make a stylish napkin. This napkin will be openwork, interesting and one of a kind. Most of all, it resembles a spider web or interlacing of plant fibers. This non-woven napkin can be made from the remnants of yarn for knitting. She really "do", and not weave. It takes about 15 minutes to create a napkin. It is the fastest, if you can say so about napkins. True, the finished product dries almost the whole day, but it is a passive process that does not require your participation. What you need to work. Depending on the chosen method, you will need:
  • method 1 - foam ring, PVA glue, pins with heads and yarn for knitting;
  • method 2 - cardboard circle , starch, yarn for knitting, transparent wide scotch.
  • Both ways are easy, and the child can handle them.
Progress. Method one - with a foam ring. On the outer edge of the ring we stick pins with heads about 2 cm apart from each other. On pins zigzags from top to bottom and left-right winding thread. Caution: not around the ring, but only around the pins. Pins hold threads like anchors. We wind, rotating the ring in different directions, so that the threads also lie in different directions.
When a fairly frequent weave is formed, we send the thread to the needle and sew by weaving using the darning method. So we give the product stability, and weave strength. Do not get too carried away, quilting is enough in two or three directions. Anyway, the napkin will be glued with white glue.

For sizing the workpiece, we dilute it with thick PVA 50:50 with water. Liquid glue to dilute is not necessary. We brush all weaves thoroughly with a brush and, without removing them from the pins, leave to dry.

Method the second is on a cardboard circle. To do this, cut out a very thick cardboard circle the size of a large dish. Actually, the dish will serve as a template for us. Circled-cut out. At a distance of two centimeters from each other, we make deep cuts, you can even make them in the form of teeth, as in the picture.

Looking ahead, I will say what is best glue the circle with a wide tape: it will reduce the bondability of the thread and paper to zero. Otherwise, there is a risk, separating the napkin from the base, to grab with it a couple of pieces of paper. They are easily separated, but this will not happen with the scotch. Having filled the space in a similar way, twisting the teeth, it is time to move on to the fastening of the thread. But first check from the back side, if all the teeth are “involved”, they then form pretty festoons from the loops. The same goes for pins - you need to check that not a single pin is empty! Quilting, I repeat, looks like a darn.The photo shows how a needle with a thread penetrates under and over the threads.

We will grease the finished napkin with paste made from starch. Proportions: 2 tbsp. spoons of starch per 200 g of water. I added a little scarlet acrylic paint to the finished paste - I wanted a bright scarlet napkin. And it turned out!

If you add blue color, you get a blue napkin. Do not rush to paint the whole paste, put it aside in the bowl, and the rest can be painted with a different color for the next napkin. In one step, I got three pieces of stylish, unusual napkins! Here is the third napkin, just removed from a jagged pattern.

All of them are rather dense due to white glue or starch paste. But to wash and use such wipes on wet surfaces for obvious reasons - it is impossible.
