For the work we need an image that we will transfer. Find it easy on the World Wide Web. But there are certain requirements - it should be monochrome, black and white, without smooth transitions, only clear edges. If you did not find such a picture on the Internet, you can bring it to this form using a photo editor.

Printing a picture

For printing, we need special paper. Ideally, the substrate will suit the adhesive film, which is usually discarded. It has such a coating, such as wax, on which the adhesive film itself does not stick. At worst, you can use the pages of glossy magazines.Anyone who has ever hunted the boards himself should understand without problems. In general, we cut out the format for the A4 or A5 printer from such a substrate and insert it into the printer. The printer must be laser, with powder paint. Print the image at maximum quality, with the ink saving feature disabled. After printing, we cut off the extra edges of the paper.

You will need a regular iron to transfer. It is good because it precisely maintains the set temperature, which is very important. We turn it over and set it at 130-150 degrees Celsius. While the iron heats up, degrease the metal surface where the picture will be applied. This can be done with a cotton swab moistened with acetone, alcohol or gasoline.

After that, put the spatula on the iron, wait a little while it gets warm.

Under the temperature, the ink melts and sticks to the metal. Carefully smooth the image through a cotton swab. You do not need to press hard - there is a danger that the paper will go out and lubricate everything. We iron everything for about 1-2 minutes. Be careful - do not get burned.

If you used a glossy magazine, soak it in water for a while and then gently peel off. You should have a clear picture on the metal. If there are melts or thickenings, then you can erase the ink with acetone and repeat the operation.

In order not to etch excess, I will make a kind of barrier for the solution from plasticine. I also pasted the surface around the picture with adhesive tape so as not to slack off too much.

Prepare a salt solution. Solution composition:
  • - water 50 ml.
  • - salt, ordinary kitchen - half a teaspoon.
We also need a battery or a 12 volt power source. Connect the positive output to the spatula. I stuck it with scotch tape. Pour in the salt solution.

And a negative electrode (I use a conventional screw), etching, immersing the electrode in the solution. The etching time is small: 20-30 seconds. According to my observations, an increase in etching time does not quite affect the figure.

Etching can also be done without electricity using another chemical solution. Etching can also be done without any plasticine barriers, just wetting a cotton swab with saline solution and attaching an electrode to it, directly affect the metal.But I do not like this method, since the contact is made on a straight line, which can erase fine details of the ink.
